One of my favorite parts of working at my local coffee shop when I was younger, was getting to see all the odd and sometimes crazy drinks the customers would create!

A honey cinnamon breve wasn’t something that was on our menu. And to be perfectly honest I haven’t the slightest idea where it came from.

All I knew was that one family would order it every time they came in, and pretty soon their friends started to order it too. So one day I decided to whip one up for myself and see what all the fuss was about. I was surprised by how amazing it tasted, it seemed so simple, so basic, yet it quickly became my new favorite coffee drink.

There was just something about its creamy texture, combined with strong espresso, a drizzle of honey, and a pinch of cinnamon, that created not only a super delicious drink but also a calm relaxing one. A drink that’s perfect for early mornings, rainy nights, hot afternoons, or pretty much any time!

You might be wondering by now though, what the heck is a breve? For those who don’t know, a breve is basically a latte and is made just like every other latte recipe. The only difference between a breve and a latte is that a breve is made with half n’ half, instead of milk. This creates a richer creamy drink, that is perfect both hot and iced!

This breve recipe is super creamy, delicious, and easy to make. Plus, I’ll tell you how to make a hot version too!

How to Make an Iced Honey Cinnamon Breve

Ingredients

  • half-half.  You can also use 1 part heavy cream with 1 part whole milk if you don’t have any half-half on hand
  • instant coffee + hot water OR a shot of espresso
  • raw honey. I love to use raw local honey for this recipe, but you can use any honey you have on hand!
  • ground cinnamon

Directions

In a small dish combine the instant coffee and cinnamon, add the hot water, and stir until the coffee is completely dissolved.

Or if you are using a shot of espresso, place the cinnamon in a small dish/bowl and brew the shot into it, stirring as it is brewing if at all possible. This will help to mix the cinnamon in without it clumping.

Add the honey to the coffee mixture, and stir until it is completely melted. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before moving on to the next step.

Fill a glass all the way up with ice(I like to use a 12 oz glass for these measurements), add a splash of half n’ half, then pour in the coffee mixture. Fill the glass the rest of the way up with half n’ half, and give it a quick stir.

If you like you can top your breve with whipped cream, a drizzle of honey, or even cinnamon sticks. But I prefer this drink without any toppings!

Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

If you would like to make your breve stronger or you want to make a larger size. I would recommend using a double shot of espresso or doubling the instant coffee and water measurements.

You can use any milk of choice instead of half n’ half for this recipe, to create a honey cinnamon latte. You can use regular dairy milk or dairy-free milk, almond milk, coconut milk, and oat milk will all work well!

Sometimes I like to add a splash of vanilla extract to this recipe, to create a richer flavor!

To make a hot honey cinnamon breve, make the coffee mixture as directed above. Then heat the half n’ half in a small saucepan until hot. (you can also use a steam wand/milk frother if you have your own espresso machine!) Pour the coffee mixture into your favorite mug then pour in the hot half n’ half. Enjoy!

You don’t have instant coffee or espresso to use for this recipe, you can also use 1/4 cup of regular strong coffee. Or 1/4 cup of French press coffee. Just be sure to use hot coffee!
