These adorable mini heart pizzas are super cute and fun! They make the perfect lunch or appetizer for Valentine’s Day, and kids love them!

Every year I’m on the lookout for fun, simple, and festive Valentine’s Day dinner ideas, from lasagna to a pasta bar, to tacos, there isn’t much we haven’t made before. Typically though pizza isn’t at the top of my list for Valentine’s Day meals, I’m more of a pasta and fancy drinks kind of girl!

But as the years go by, I find myself looking for quicker and simpler recipes, and with more kids in the house than usual this year, I found myself thinking a lot about what to make. I wanted to make something easy, but that would still be festive, and fun for the kids.

That’s when I got thinking, about pizza. Pizza is easy to make, it’s quick, simple, fun, kids love it, plus it’s a meal that the whole family can make together! Not to mention red and white is pretty much the base of all pizzas, so it already fits the holiday quite nicely!

I decided to put a little spin on my pizza idea and make them extra cute, by making them heart-shaped, and mini! The recipe below uses enough pizza crust for 2 regular pizzas, but you can easily cut it in half. Or turn half of it into little pizzas and turn the other half into a large pizza for the grown-ups!

directions

If you are using homemade pizza dough, make sure to take rise time into account when making this recipe!

Preheat the oven to 474 degrees F.

Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Or grease them with avocado or olive oil. Set aside. You can also use a pizza stone if you have one.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough with a rolling pin, to 1/4-1/2 inch thick.

Lightly flour your heart cookie cutter, and cut out as many hearts from the rolled dough as possible, starting by the edges and working your way in.

Repeat with the leftover dough. Try to cut out as many hearts as possible with each roll, I wouldn’t recommend rolling the dough more than 2-3 times.

Place the cut dough hearts on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon a little pizza sauce onto each mini pizza, and gently spread it out so it covers the whole heart. Add the shredded cheese, followed by the mini pepperonis.

Place the pizzas in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown. I like the tops of my pizzas to the golden and crispy as well, so I like to broil my pizzas for 1-2 minutes before pulling them out of the oven!

Allow the pizzas to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

Notes

*if you don’t have a heart cookie cutter, you can still make these mini pizzas! Simply take a small round of dough, and using your hands gently press it into the shape of a heart. Pull down the top of the dough with your figure to create the top of the heart, then pinch the bottom of the dough and pull it down to create a heart shape!

**If you are looking to make these heart-shaped mini pizzas extra fun, try making your own heart-shaped pepperonis! Start with full-sized pepperoni slices, you can make mini hearts either by using a mini heart cookie cutter or by folding the slices in half and cutting out a heart, just like you cut a Valentine heart out of paper!

Feel free to add any of your favorite toppings to these pizzas! Mini sausages, red onions, black olives, fresh basil, and parmesan cheese would all be great!

Any leftover Valentine’s Day pizza can stored in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap, and kept in the fridge for up to 5 days!
