I have to admit potato salad seasoning wasn’t something I even knew existed until recently, growing up our potato salad was always the same, and always simple. Boiled potatoes with mayo, and mustard, and seasoned with salt and black pepper. It wasn’t until I was working on recreating my grandmother’s potato salad recipe that I discovered this thing called potato salad seasoning. And though I will forever enjoy I good easy potato salad recipe, and very glad I discovered this seasoning.
Now you might be wondering why I created this recipe, after all this wasn’t a seasoning I was using regularly and if I only use it in potato salad, why would I bother making my own?
Well, I decided to make this recipe for a few different reasons, namely the fact that most stores around me don’t sell Watkins spices or seasoning, and also the fact I simply cannot justify paying over $5 for something I know I could easily make at home using spices I already have.
A couple of other reasons were that I prefer making all of my seasonings at home, though Watkins tends to be a good brand and the seasonings are organic. I still prefer to be the one making my seasoning mixes and knowing exactly what is going into them. Making my own potato salad seasoning also allowed me to make only as much as I needed, meaning I could small batches I knew I would use up quickly, rather than buying a whole bottle, which would honestly last me 1-2 years.
If you’ve never used potato salad seasoning I would highly suggest you give it a try! I would also like to suggest trying out this recipe, it is made with the perfect blend of spices, and it can be used in many different recipes, it is also in my humble opinion the best potato salad seasoning you’ll try!
