Chopped Greek Salad Recipe
This easy chopped Greek salad makes the perfect side dish, it’s fresh, crisp, and oh-so delicious! With just 8 ingredients this quick and simple salad takes little time to make and is perfect for picnics, potlucks, dinner parties, and more!
I know this is a far cry from a traditional Greek salad, and it’s not what most people expect when you say chopped salad either. I guess this recipe might even be closer to an Italian salad than a Greek one. But let’s not get into that right now.
Whatever people might have to say, in my mind this salad, will always be a Greek salad. My Greek salad, my mum’s, and my Grandma’s. The Greek salad I grew up with, and I can tell you right now I don’t have any plans to change this salad any time soon.
In my mind, this amazing Greek salad might just be the best salad ever, and I’m sure once you try it you’ll agree! Made with only a few simple ingredients, including chopped lettuce and homemade Greek salad dressing, this Greek salad recipe is packed full of flavor, it’s super easy to make. And can served with just about anything.
Usually, I find myself making this salad for dinner parties or at-home date nights, and somehow it always manages to work its way onto our Valentine’s Day Menu, regardless of what we are having. But I also find myself whipping it up quite often for last-minute gatherings, potlucks, and picnics!
Out of all the salad recipes I’ve ever made, I can truly say this is by far the easiest, and most delicious salad of them all. It pairs wonderfully with pasta, roasted chicken, pan-fried chicken breasts, lamb chops, and roast!
This is my take on the recipe my family has been making for the past 20+ years, I added my homemade Greek salad dressing, and turned it into a chopped salad to help cut down on prep time even more!
How to make chopped Greek salad
ingredients
- Greek salad dressing
- romaine lettuce, you can use a different type of lettuce if you like, just be sure to use crisp lettuce.
- ham, I like to use pre-sliced ham and cut it into strips
- tomatoes, I like to use fresh Roma tomatoes, but you can also use cherry tomatoes, or whatever ripe tomatoes you have on hand!
- red onion
- green bell pepper
- black olives
- block of feta cheese
directions
Before we get into the recipe, I just wanted to say, that I don’t induce exact measurements for this salad, the amount of each ingredient really depends on how much salad you are making. How much lettuce you have, and how many toppings you want on it. I like to load my salads up, so the rough measurements are based on that. If you prefer more of a lettuce salad with few toppings, you’ll likely want to cut back on the amounts listed above.
Wash your lettuce under cool running water, spin it in a salad spinner, or pat it dry with a few paper towels. Chop or tear the lettuce into bite-sized pieces and place it in a large bowl.
Roughly chop the green pepper, red onion, and tomatoes(if you are using cherry tomatoes, halve them), and add them to the bowl. Halve the black olives and add them to the bowl.
Then crumble the feta cheese over the bowl, and finally pour on the Greek salad dressing(I use a full batch on my homemade Greek salad dressing).
Toss everything together, making sure that the lettuce, ham, and veggies are completely coated in the dressing. Serve immediately or transfer to the fridge until ready to eat.
Enjoy!
