Cranberry Simple Syrup Recipe

This cranberry simple syrup recipe, calls for 2 simple ingredients and takes less than 20 minutes to make! This homemade cranberry syrup is fast, easy, and way cheaper than any premade syrup from the grocery store. It’s perfect for cocktails, mocktails, teas, coffees, lattes, and more. It even makes a delicious topping for pancakes and waffles!

It wouldn’t take someone very long to figure out, simple syrups are kind of my thing, I haven’t found a simple syrup yet that I can’t make at home. And I’ve shared quite a few of those recipes here on the blog, though I still have quite a large stash I haven’t gotten around the sharing yet!

I posted my first simple syrup recipe back at the start of 2024. How to Make Berry Simple Syrup with any kind of berry, and while that recipe is just as tried and true as it was the day I shared it. I regretfully have to inform my younger self that it wasn’t quite as foolproof as I had thought.

To be perfectly honest making cranberry simple syrup never crossed my mind, it wasn’t until a friend of mine decided to try out the recipe that I realized there was a slight problem.

We both knew it wouldn’t work to use fresh cranberries for the recipe, but she figured frozen cranberries should do the job. As it turns out they do not. And what she ended out with was a lot closer to homemade cranberry sauce, than homemade simple syrup.

It was then it dawned on me, that while making homemade cranberry simple syrup is super easy. I wouldn’t be able to use my traditional simple syrup method to make it.  Instead, I pulled from another one of my favorite simple syrup recipes and made a quick and easy simple syrup using pure cranberry juice!

And I’m happy to say this recipe came out great! It’s packed full of sweet and tangy delicious cranberry flavor, while its fun and rich red color is sure to add a pop to any recipe!

This syrup is perfect for all your favorite cranberry cocktails, as well as teas, coffees, and lattes. It can even be used to top, pancakes, waffles, and vanilla ice cream!

How To Make Cranberry Simple Syrup 

Ingredients

  • pure cranberry juice, be sure to use 100% pure unsweetened cranberry juice! 
  • sugar, you can use white sugar, cane sugar, and even brown sugar for this recipe

Directions 

Pour the sugar and cranberry juice into a small saucepan, and whisk to combine. 

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat, and cook whisking often until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture has thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon. About 5 minutes.

Remove the pan from the heat and allow it to cool for 2-3 minutes. Then carefully pour the syrup into a glass container or mason jar. You can store your cranberry syrup in any glass airtight container, or glass bottle you like, just be sure it can be sealed tightly!

Allow the cranberry syrup to cool uncovered on the counter until it has reached room temperature. Then cover tightly and place in the fridge until ready to use.

Use for any of your favorite cocktails, mocktails, lattes, or teas.

Recipe Notes

Cranberry simple syrup can be stored in an airtight container or jar in the fridge for up to 1 month. 

Given its festive flavor, this simple syrup is perfect for the holiday season, you can even add some orange peel while simmering, to create a cranberry orange syrup. Or a cinnamon stick and whole cloves while simmering to create a spiced cranberry syrup. Just be sure to be sure to strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer before storing to get out any little particles!

This cranberry syrup is perfect for any of the following drink recipes! – cranberry margarita, cranberry old fashioned, cranberry mimosa,  cranberry Moscow mule, spiced cranberry champagne cocktail. Cranberry white chocolate latte, cranberry iced tea, non-alcoholic mocktails and more!
