Gingerbread is a classic holiday flavor and is enjoyed in many forms every holiday season. From warm gingerbread cookies, cakes, hot chocolates, and lattes. To things like a gingerbread martini, and gingerbread fudge! For many reasons, gingerbread and Christmas just seem to go hand in hand. 

I love the taste of gingerbread, it might just be my favorite holiday flavor! And let’s just say I ate more than a few gingerbread cookies while working on this recipe. And I especially love how this homemade syrup perfectly captures the flavors of the season.

This gingerbread syrup tastes exactly like a gingerbread cookie,  it’s perfect for adding to coffee, baked goods, cocktails, or any of your favorite holiday drinks and treats!

How To Make Gingerbread Simple Syrup

Ingredients

Directions

In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar and ground spices, and whisk to combine.

Add the water and vanilla extract and whisk to combine. Place your saucepan on the stove and turn your lid up to medium heat, bring the mixture to a simmer, whisking constantly, and continue to simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved. 

Once the sugar is dissolved remove your pan from the heat, and allow the syrup to cool briefly. 

Pour your gingerbread syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a clean glass jar(I used two small mason jars for mine.) This helps remove any larger bits of the ground spices, but you can skip this step if you like.

Allow your finished syrup to cool uncovered until it reaches room temperature. Once the syrup is cooled cover tightly and place in the fridge until ready to use.

Use for any of your favorite gingerbread coffee drinks, hot chocolates, and cocktails.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar both light brown sugar, and dark brown sugar work well for this recipe
  • 3 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
