- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or half and half
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 oz white chocolate chopped. You can also white chocolate chips, but I prefer baking chocolate
- 4-5 drops green food coloring You can use any green food coloring you have on hand for this recipe, but neon green food coloring produces the best Grinch-like green color!
- whipped cream homemade or store-bought
- red heart sprinkles regular or jumbo heart sprinkles both work well
- Christmas sprinkles Or green sprinkles, optional
Additional Topping Ideas
- crushed candy canes
- mini marshmallows
- red candy hearts
- chocolate drizzle
- red sprinkles
In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Heat over medium-low heat, whisking often until the mixture is hot, and small bubbles have appeared around the edges of the pan.
Reduce the heat to low, and add the chopped white chocolate, whisk continually until the chocolate is completely melted. Add 4-5 drops of green food coloring Or more until you reach your desired shade of green. Whisk to combine. Remove the pan from the heat, then carefully pour the finished hot chocolate into a large mug(I like to use a clear glass mug so you can see the color!)
Enjoy!
This hot chocolate recipe can easily be doubled or tripled or made in a large batch! However, I wouldn’t recommend making this recipe ahead of time, as the hot chocolate will start to develop a film on top if it is left to sit too long.
If you like you can use green candy melts along with the white chocolate in place of the green food coloring. But personally, I find the neon green food coloring gives me the best green Grinch color!
Sometimes I like to add a 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract to this recipe, to create a delicious white chocolate peppermint hot chocolate! You could even add a splash of peppermint schnapps to the adult’s cups!
