Ingredients

  • 1 14oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil I like to use extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp sugar I like to use white sugar or cane sugar.
  • 1 spring each of fresh thyme, oregano, and rosemary leaves pulled off the stems and roughly chopped. Feel free to add more or less to suit your taste!
  • 3-4 fresh sage leaves, roughly chopped
  • 3-4 fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp white pepper you can also use black pepper
  • water as needed

Instructions

  • In a blender(you can also use a food processor or immersion blender), combine the diced tomatoes and tomato paste and blend until you have a smooth puree, adding water as needed to help it blend easily.
  • If you prefer your pizza sauce thinner, add additional water until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Pour the tomato sauce into a bowl and add the remaining ingredients. Stir, taste, and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  • Use it the same as you would any store-bought pizza sauce.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Homemade Pizza Sauce can be stored in an airtight container or a jar with a lid in the fridge for up to 1 week. Pizza sauce can also be frozen for longer storage; homemade pizza sauce can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
If you don’t have any fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs. On the same note, you can definitely make this easy recipe with fresh tomatoes instead of canned! I don’t have exact measurements to swap, and I would still recommend adding the tomato paste for the best results.
My favorite ways to use this delicious homemade pizza sauce recipe are as the base of my deep dish 4 cheese pizza. Or adding to my homemade sourdough pizza dough and loading it with lots of fresh veggies and fresh mozzarella cheese! But you can easily use this sauce for any of your favorite homemade pizza recipes!
And don’t forget that this pizza sauce is a recipe that is meant to be changed. So be sure to make this recipe your own! The possibilities are truly endless with what you can do with this sauce, but here are a few of my favorite ways to switch things up!
  1. Use a variety of tomatoes. If I am making this sauce with fresh tomatoes, I love to use a variety of different tomatoes, in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors!
  2. Use fresh garlic and minced fresh onions in place of garlic and onion powder. Or try adding shallots or even green onions!
  3. Mix up the herbs and spices. Add any of your favorite fresh or dried herbs, or match them to your pizza toppings! Try adding Italian seasoning or crushed red pepper flakes; you can even add shredded parmesan cheese or infused oils!
