Like most people, I grew up obsessed with ranching dressing and anything ranch-flavored. For a time I was convinced anything would taste better with ranch, which led to a few questionable decisions as a small child, FYI popsicles don’t taste good dipped in ranch dressing.
I used to put ranch dressing on just about everything, salads, pizza, hamburgers, I dipped veggies, chips, and pretzels into it. I loved anything I would find that was ranch flavored, crackers, chips, popcorn, you name it, if it had ranch in the title I knew it was always guaranteed to be a new favorite.
These days I don’t eat ranch dressing half as much as I used to, but I’m still a big fan of the flavor, and I have a hard time turning down the chance to eat anything ranch-flavored!
But since I like the flavor more than the dressing these days, it’s no surprise I found myself reaching for a store-bought packet of ranch seasoning mix, hidden valley ranch packets are super easy to grab and they taste great, I’m not gonna lie.
But I couldn’t get past the ingredients, and artificial flavors, and to be completely honest I’m not a huge fan of buttermilk ranch. So I set out to do what any home cook would do and spent a good year playing about with different homemade seasoning mixes.
And I’m happy to report that I have finally managed to create the perfect homemade ranch seasoning mix!
This homemade version is super easy to make and doesn’t call for powdered milk of any kind. It’s great for seasoning chicken breasts and meatloaf, it’s perfect for making homemade veggie dip, or homemade ranch salad dressing! Just be sure to buy extra ingredients, this easy recipe is sure to become a pantry staple!
How to make your own homemade ranch seasoning mix
Ingredients
- dill weed
- garlic powder
- minced onion
- sea salt
- freshly ground black pepper
- parsley
Directions
I used dried herbs for this recipe, but you can 100% use fresh herbs! I also like to use organic spices for this recipe, as I find them to be the most flavorful!
In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients, and mix well. If you want to create a finely powdered seasoning mix, place all the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until it reaches your desired texture.
Place your finished ranch seasoning mix, in an airtight container or an airtight jar. I like to store mine in a mason jar or a glass spice jar.
Store your seasoning mix in a cool dry place, or a spice cabinet.
Use this seasoning mix for all your favorite ranch recipes!
Recipe Notes
Homemade seasoning mix can be stored for up to 2 months! Be sure to give your homemade mix a good shake before each use to help keep the ingredients blended!
Some of my favorite ways to use this seasoning mix are in homemade ranch dip, baked ranch chicken, and homemade ranch dressing. It’s also great for seasoning popcorn, crackers, salads, bagels, and more!
You can easily double or triple this recipe to make a big batch, which I would highly recommend doing if you make your own ranch dressing as much as I do!
