Thin Mint Milkshake Recipe
This thin mint milkshake is super easy to make and perfect for any hot summer day! Made with thin mint cookies, creamy chocolate ice cream, and topped with whipped cream, this easy shake makes the perfect snack or dessert. And it is a great excuse to eat even more of your favorite Girl Scout cookies!

Growing up, I was never a part of the Girl Scouts, and neither were any of my sisters, but like a lot of people, we still knew plenty about Girl Scout cookie season.
And while we didn’t get Girl Scout cookies often, and even less now, since I live in the middle of nowhere. But believe me, I more than understand why everyone loves them so much.
Anytime we did get Girl Scout cookies, it was always one of two kinds, Caramel DeLites or Thin Mints cookies, which just happened to be my mum and dad’s favorite flavors.

And over the years, I’ve eaten my fair share of both, and while they are both delicious, Thin Mints will forever be my favorite Girl Scout cookie.
Which to make a long story short is how we ended up here. For years, I’ve been making homemade milkshakes in a variety of flavors and in a few different ways. And let’s just say when this idea popped into my head, I knew it was going to be delicious.

I’m happy to say this creamy milkshake does, in fact, taste just like a thin mint cookie, or at the very least, pretty darn close to one.
It makes a great snack or dessert, especially during the hottest days in summer, and is another good excuse to eat more cookies.
And if you aren’t able to get your hands on any Girl Scout cookies at the moment, don’t worry!
There are a few knock brands readily available, and you can even make this shake without any cookies at all, and it will still taste exactly like a Thin Mint!

How to Make a Thin Mint Milkshake
Ingredients:
- chocolate ice cream, slightly softened
- whipped cream, homemade or store-bought. You can also use Cool Whip or spray can whipped cream. See notes for my easy homemade recipe!
- pure peppermint extract
- milk to thin if needed
- Thin Mint cookies, crushed. Save some of the crumbs for sprinkling on top of the shake.

Directions
In an upright blender, combine the ice cream, whipped cream, and a splash of milk. Blend until smooth and creamy.
Add more milk if needed until you have reached a thick and creamy texture. Keep in mind you want it to be thin enough to drink with a straw, but not too liquidy.
Add the peppermint extract, 1/4 tsp at a time, blend just long enough to mix in the extract, taste, and adjust as needed until you reach your desired amount of mint flavor.
Then add most of your crushed thin mint cookies, and pulse just until combined.
Pour into a large glass or two small glasses. Top with whipped cream and crushed cookies. Or a top with whipped cream, a whole thin mint, and a fresh mint leaf!

Recipe Notes
Here’s my easy homemade whipped cream recipe! – I love to use this recipe for both topping and mixing in my milkshakes.
Combine 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, and 3 teaspoons vanilla extract in a large bowl. Beat using an electric mixer at high speed until stiff peaks form. Enjoy!
If you don’t have Thin Mint cookies available to you at the moment, you can easily leave them out of this recipe altogether. Or look for a knockoff brand at your local grocery store. I know the Walmart Great Value brand sells a good chocolate mint cookie, which is very similar to the Girl Scouts’ Thin Mints Cookies.
I like adding crushed Thin Mints to the shake itself as well as sprinkling them on top, but you can easily leave them out of the shake if you’re a fan of things in your milkshakes.
Chocolate ice cream is 100% my go-to for this recipe. You could definitely make this shake with vanilla ice cream, too; it just won’t taste quite like a thin mint.
