BBQ Chicken Pizza Recipe (with ground chicken crust)
This easy and delicious BBQ chicken pizza is sure to be a hit with the whole family and is a great way to switch things up for your next pizza night! Made with my super-simple ground chicken pizza crust and topped with your favorite pizza toppings, this BBQ pizza is an easy way to sneak in a little extra protein or make a delicious gluten-free pizza!

Now, before anyone gets on my case, this isn’t going to be one of those protein-loaded, or low-crab crazy recipes.
I love bread, including pizza crust, and making a crust out of chicken had nothing to do with upping my protein intake. Though, admittedly, it is a good hack if you struggle to eat protein.
This recipe, like a lot of my recipes, mostly came about because I saw someone else making it. Normally, I don’t think to use anything other than my homemade sourdough pizza crust for my homemade pizzas, or my simple traditional pizza crust recipe.

But something about the idea of chicken pizza crust got my attention, and so I decided to try it out. Especially since I happened to be going through a phase where I hated eating meat, but was still craving chicken. Don’t ask.
And since I am a long-time lover of BBQ sauce and any pizza that includes it as a topping. I figured what better to make with a chicken crust than a BBQ chicken pizza?
So that’s exactly what I did. And it has since become one of my favorite pizza recipes!

Topped with lots of BBQ sauce, my favorite pizza toppings, and made with a shockingly delicious chicken pizza crust. This recipe has quickly become a family favorite.
And yes, it’s easy to sneak in some protein, for the days when you need a little extra, or just aren’t feeling like eating regular diced or shredded chicken.
And while I don’t know a whole lot about gluten-free eating, I feel this recipe is pretty easy to adapt to be gluten-free. Just be sure to use cheeses, seasoning, and of course, a BBQ sauce that is safe to eat!

How To Make BBQ Chicken Pizza with Chicken Crust
If you’re planning to use roasted sweet potato as one of your pizza toppings, prep your sweet potato and get it cooked before starting on the rest of the pizza.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, egg, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and dried oregano. Mix well.
Line a large baking sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper. Then place the chicken mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, and using your hands, shape your crust(you can wear gloves for this step if you like). Shape the chicken mixture into a circle or square roughly 10 inchs in size and roughly 1/4 of an inch thick.
Place your crust into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the edges of the crust are a light golden brown.
Remove the crust from the oven and allow it to cool momentarily before topping.
Drizzle the BBQ sauce over the top of the pizza crust and spread it out as evenly as possible over the whole crust with the back of a spoon.
Then top your pizza with the diced tomato and red onion, followed by the roasted sweet potato.
Finally, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top, and return the pizza to the oven.
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the sauce is bubbly.
At this point, I always like to switch my oven to broil and broil my pizza for 1-2 minutes or until the melted cheese is golden brown on top. But you can easily skip this step.
Remove the pizza from the oven and allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes before cutting and serving.
Enjoy!

Recipe Notes
Any leftover pizza can be stored in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap in the fridge for up to 3 days. Leftover barbecue chicken pizza can easily be reheated in the oven.
As I mentioned above, feel free to use any of your favorite BBQ pizza toppings in addition to or in place of the ones I used. Some of my other favorite toppings are: pineapple, pepperoni, pickled jalapenos, bacon, and even spinach!
You can also use a blend of cheeses or your favorite kind of cheese in place of the cheddar cheese. Pepper jack cheese, Gouda cheese, and mozzarella cheese are all delicious!
I have seen people make chicken pizza crust using 1 lb. of raw chicken breast, and combining it with the other crust ingredients in a food processor to create a ground chicken texture. But personally, I’ve never done it, so I can’t really offer any directions or help with that.
I’m sure you could also swap ground turkey for the ground chicken, but personally, I’ve never done so.
