Champagne is my favorite thing to drink, and if given the option it’ll always be my drink of choice, no matter how small the event. From weddings to lazy Saturday mornings, to cracking open a bottle on a random Friday night and drinking it while watching my favorite movie.

You get the point, if there’s champagne, and I have anything to celebrate or nothing to celebrate I’m probably going to drink a glass. So naturally it seemed like only a matter of time until a champagne cocktail recipe came about.

This purple drink though, actually came about by accident.  One day I found myself with half a bottle of champagne that needed to be finished off. I had actually been planning to use it to make mimosas but realized a little too late that we didn’t have any orange juice in the house.

We did however have a bottle of pomegranate juice in the fridge. So I figured why not? And decided to combine two of my favorite beverages into one!

The minute I tasted this drink I knew I was on to something, the bubbly champagne, mixed with the sweet, but tangy flavor of the pomegranate juice, created not just a delicious, but also a beautiful cocktail, that just so happens to be one of the easiest cocktails you’ll ever make!

And the name, of course, is in honor of Prince, and his song Purple Rain. Which my Dad has been playing/singing ever since I can remember!

What makes this the perfect drink for every occasion?

I love serving this champagne drink on a number of different occasions and for many good reasons! If you are looking for purple cocktails to serve, I would highly suggest adding this one to the menu!

This Purple Rain cocktail is the perfect cocktail for serving at weddings, bridal showers, dinner parties, holidays, and more. It makes a lovely addition to a Mother’s Day brunch, and you can even serve the easy mocktail version(recipe below) for your baby shower!

A big reason I love serving this delicious drink at events and get-togethers is because it’s beyond easy to make! Since there is no fresh fruit, simple syrup, or dye to give it its purple color you remove the need to use a cocktail shaker, and if you can have the champagne well chilled, you don’t have to worry about needing ice either!

Plus this drink is so easy to make, that it can easily be added as part of a self-serve cocktail bar! And this purple cocktail is sure to be a bit with everyone who tries it!

Recipe Notes

Be sure to use 100% pomegranate juice, if you don’t the cocktail WILL NOT BE PURPLE!

I like to think the glitter serves as enough of a garnish for this elegant drink, but free feel to add a lemon slice or lemon twist, for some added color. Or your favorite edible flowers!

If you are making this drink just for yourself(or a few friends) and you have leftover champagne. You can easily save it and keep it bubbly, by placing a spoon handle in the neck of the bottle, then covering it with a tea towel or plastic wrap. The spoon with keep the champagne fresh and bubbly, while the tea towel will keep out any dust or flies.

You can also look for resealing bottles if you know you are going to make this in a small batch. There are quite a few brands that sell champagne in these bottles now, and let me tell you, they are a lifesaver! That being said, however, most of the time I still just use a spoon to save leftover champagne and it hasn’t failed me once!

Edible glitter will start to sink after a while. So be sure to serve your drink as soon as it’s done, or give it another quick stir before handing it to your guests!

Purple Rain Mocktail (kid-friendly version)

This cocktail recipe can easily be turned into a mocktil!  Since more often than not we have people at our events that can’t drink, and for many different reasons.

Whether they are too young, pregnant, have medical restrictions or their religion doesn’t allow it, there are many different reasons people can’t/don’t drink. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get to join in the fun and enjoy a fancy drink!

And I always do my best to include a mocktail version of all the cocktail recipes I share here on the blog!
