Growing up we ate oatmeal at least 3 times a week for breakfast, and though we always loaded it with lots of brown sugar and maybe a splash of milk, I hated eating it.

Maybe it was the lack of flavor or a texture thing, I don’t know. But for one reason or another, I hated oatmeal when I was younger. So much so that I would rather skip breakfast than eat it!

The only times I can recall wanting to eat oatmeal were the rare times my mum would treat us to a box of flavored instant oatmeal from the store. Sometimes even the one with dinosaur eggs in it! (I’m not the only one who remembers that am I?)

But more often than not it was the same box of variety flavors, brown sugar cinnamon, strawberries and cream, peaches and cream, apple cinnamon, banana, and of course blueberries and cream!

Though to be honest I still didn’t care for oatmeal, I think it was the concerning amount of sugar and change of flavors that had me begging my mum for oatmeal first thing in the morning.

Over the years though, many of my most hated childhood foods, have become comfort foods and things I can’t live without. And when I happened to stumble upon an easy homemade instant oatmeal recipe a few years back, the same became true for oatmeal.

I shared my easy homemade instant oatmeal recipe, last year along with my favorite instant oatmeal flavor strawberries and cream. And now I would like to share another of my beloved childhood favorites, blueberries and cream instant oatmeal!

This recipe is super easy to make, and not only does it taste way better than anything you’ll find at the store, but it’s also way better for you! It’s free of preservatives, corn syrup, soy, and hidden sugars. Not to mention it’s sure to be a hit with kids and grown-ups alike!

Directions

Prep the instant oatmeal according to the recipe instructions. Once the oats are finished and cooled, place 1/2 cup instant oatmeal mix into each jar or resealable bag. (1 batch of instant oatmeal will make 12-single serve jars/packets of instant oatmeal.)

Then add 1 tbsp of heavy cream powder to each jar/bag, followed by 2-3 tbsp of freeze-dried blueberries(the amount will really depend on the size of your freeze-dried berries) Cover/seal tightly and store in a cool dry place until ready to use.

When you are ready to eat your oatmeal, pour 1 jar/bag into a small bowl, followed by 1 -1 1/2 cups boiling water, stir, and allow the oatmeal to sit for 5 minutes or until thickened to your liking.

Top with a sprinkle of blueberries and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Blueberries and cream instant oatmeal can be stored in a cool, dry spot for up to 1 month.

For quick and easy breakfasts on the go, prep your oatmeal in 16 oz jars instead of 8 oz jars, this way you can add your hot water right to the jar, and take it for the road!

You can find my homemade instant oatmeal recipe HERE!

You can also make this recipe extra creamy by using hot milk in place of the hot water. Personally, I like to use whole milk, but you can use any type of milk you like, even non-dairy milk. Almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, and soy milk will all work well!
