a sandwich that has been cut in half, the halves are stacked on top of each other, on a paper plate

Unless you’ve spent a lot of time in the Midwest, specifically WI, and unless you found the time while you were there to catch a baseball game at the stadium of the lesser-known High-A affiliates of the Wisconsin Brewers, also known as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. It’s probably safe to say you have no idea what I’m talking about right now.

I would even doubt if those who have happened to attend one of these games(or a hundred) have any idea what I’m talking about, or what the heck this sandwich is. And let me just start by saying you’re really missing out.

I knew the moment I read what this sandwich was, it was going to be good. It was a late summer day and this sandwich happened to be a new menu item released at the stadium, my older brother showed it to me, and we both at the same thought.

Sounds weird, but I bet it’s delicious. I’m almost ashamed to admit it took us another 2-3 baseball games to actually get around to ordering it.

But I’m glad we finally did, I wasn’t expecting fried chicken to mix well with bacon cherry jam, and sourdough bread, but man was this sandwich good! And I knew it wasn’t going to be long before I created my own easy and just delicious homemade version.

I can admit this recipe is more for me than anyone else, but it’s so good I felt I had to share it here!

Even if you’ve never heard of the The Show sandwich or the Timber Rattlers, and you are not quite sold on the idea of bacon cherry jam yet. Please just give this recipe I try, I promise you won’t regrate it!

How to Make The Show Sandwich

Ingredients – makes 2 sandwiches

  • Sourdough bread, I used homemade sourdough sandwich bread
  • butter, for the bread
  • fried chicken, you can also use grilled chicken, but I think the fried chicken really makes the recipe
  • bacon cherry jam, this is the ONE I used, but it’s a little pricy but 100% worth it! Still feel free to shop around for a different brand, or even make your own!
  • sharp cheddar cheese slices

Directions

Butter one side of each piece of bread, then place two slices on a plate butter side down.

Spread 1-2 tbsp of bacon cherry jam on each piece of bread(just the two slices on the plate) and set aside until ready to use.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat, place the two remaining slices of bread in the pan, butter side down.

Place 1 piece of fried chicken on each slice of bread, followed by two slices of cheddar cheese(on each one).

Then place the bacon cherry jam slices on top, jam side down.

Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Flip and fry the other side until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown. About 2 minutes.

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and cut in half at an angle. Serve with a side of french fries or potato chips.

Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Any leftover sandwich can be wrapped tightly in plastic wrap or placed in an airtight container and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days!

You can find the bacon cherry jam I used HERE. It is a little pricey but worth it! Feel free to shop around for a cheaper option, or even make your own! Bacon cherry jam is also great on burgers, pork chops, and roast chicken!
